There is a growing consensus in the field of professional development for educators that embedded strategies, those strategies that are implemented in the contexts of schools, are highly effective and can be sustained over time, as opposed to the traditional “one shot” training models. The WV Department of Education and the WV Center for Professional Development have both begun to promote embedded professional development in both training delivery, and in the case of WVDOE, funding opportunities. We believe that by uniting resources and expertise we can provide a strong foundation for helping two Professional Development School networks and the county school systems meet the challenges of the state’s school improvement agenda, as well asaddress individual site-based needs.
